John L Auton III: President
In 2002, after twelve years of working his way up from laborer to project manager, John had enough courage to start his own company. Imperial Design Builders began as a two-man operation, but today the Imperial team has completed hundreds of commercial construction projects. Imperial continues to make a name for itself as a fair, honest, and transparent company with a knack for giving back to the community. The local community is important to John because he grew up in a suburb of Raleigh and has always considered North Carolina his home. Now, after over 40 years, he knows his way around both the community and the construction business. As CEO, he believes that the best leaders surround themselves with the best people. John trusts his team explicitly and knows how valuable they are to both his company and his clients. If you know John, you know that he is a religious man—the kind of man who lists as hobbies both attending church activities and spending time with his wife and family. When asked what his greatest achievement was, he responded, “Being Saved by the grace of God.” That’s the kind of man John is and he tries hard to run his business with the same set of values that govern his life. Whether it’s business or church, in John’s eyes we’re all part of the same community and ought to look after each other.
Macon Auton: Vice President/Superintendent
A 1992 graduate of Clayton High School, Macon’s 21 years of construction experience began in 1989 as a laborer working with his brother building houses, remodeling, and doing light commercial jobs. He gained a subcontractor’s perspective while working in restaurant renovations and commercial construction, primarily interior metal and wood stud installation drywall applications, which helps him in his active on site supervision of Imperial Design Builders projects.
Mike Gillikin: Vice President of Sales and Business Development
Mike began his career in construction over 15 years ago as a consultant for one of the major self-storage building suppliers in the Southeast. In his role as a self-storage consultant he worked with self-storage owners, contractors, real estate developers, civil engineers and architects to develop site plans, layouts, unit mixes and building designs. He brings his knowledge from self-storage construction and network to Imperial Design Builders and as VP of Sales and Business Development he will add to their already strong knowledge of the self-storage industry and construction. Taking the knowledge he has learned in prior roles, he was excited to join the Imperial Design Builders team and contribute as a site supervisor. A die hard outdoorsman and fisherman when he isn’t on the job site, he is usually saltwater fishing, fly tying, hiking, traveling, watching sports or is at the beach or on the water.
Mike Francis: Superintendent
Mike started his construction career in 2005 working for a national residential production builder in the Raleigh, NC market. After 12 years of residential construction transitioning to commercial construction and Imperial Design Builders was a great opportunity and something that he always wanted to do. Along with his loyalty and commitment, Mike brings his experience with production and high paced construction to the Imperial Design Builders’ team. Before moving to the Raleigh area in 1998, he graduated from Elmira College with a Business Management degree. While attending Elmira College he was also a student athlete, playing for the basketball team. He is still active in athletics, playing softball and basketball for Apex, Cary, and the Raleigh city leagues. When not working and playing sports, he loves to relax at the beach. Mike grew up in Virginia Beach and his love for the beach and ocean is still in his blood.
